In Lipjan, urgent removal of asbestos materials from public buildings is required

Several public buildings in Lipjan, since the 80s, continue to be covered with asbestos material, which was considered harmful to the environment and the health of citizens. Regarding this issue, the opposition party in this city, PDK, has urgently requested from the executive to take concrete steps to remove them.

The municipality of Lipjan said that they have formed a special team to identify all the objects and take concrete steps to remove them, even though some of the public objects are not owned by the municipality.

This issue was debated at length at the last meeting of the Municipal Assembly in Lipjan, with the aim of taking urgent measures to remove this material from all public buildings, be it schools, collective housing, etc.

Arsim Jashari, head of the PDK parliamentary group, told Telegraf that asbestos material is carcinogenic and very harmful to the health of citizens, while this material releases dangerous fibers that are dispersed into the environment.

"We have a fairly large number of public and private buildings in the municipality of Lipjan that were built years ago, so citizens can suffer direct damage from this asbestos material. In the 80s, this material was common where many residential buildings and schools were built, but there is a great risk to the health of citizens since this material releases carcinogenic particles. Therefore, municipal institutions must urgently engage in removing all this material from all public buildings," said Jashari.

Jashari has requested that the municipality form a special commission to identify all objects covered with this material and take urgent measures to remove them.

"We also ask citizens in various localities that if they have such materials in their private facilities, they remove them professionally because even during their removal they are dangerous to the health of citizens since this material releases particles that are harmful and carcinogenic," Jashari said.

On the other hand, the Mayor of Lipjan, Imri Ahmeti, said that the issue of asbestos material is a relevant topic, but the municipality has long formed a team that is in the final stages of procedures to take concrete steps to remove all this material from municipal facilities.

"The asbestos issue is rightly raised as a topic. The executive has formed a team that has been dealing with this issue for quite some time. There are very few public or municipally owned facilities, mainly part of school barracks, etc. There are some facilities in the city, but it is important that the department is dealing with this issue and we are at the end of the process to take further steps on how we will act. It is a topic that is worth addressing and we are making efforts in this direction," said Ahmeti. /Telegrafi/
