What Russia wants and what Ukraine cannot achieve, Rubio reveals

During a hearing in the US Senate, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed his opinion on the essence of the conflict in Ukraine.

According to him, the fundamental problem of this war is not just about the military clash, but about attitudes and goals that are deeply incompatible.

On the one hand, Russia seeks to take something it does not currently possess and which, under international law, it has no right to claim – the territory of Ukraine, its sovereignty and influence over it.

On the other hand, Ukraine is trying to regain territories that have been occupied, but it cannot achieve this by military means alone, due to the disparity of resources, military power, and limited international support.

Rubio emphasizes that this situation creates a dangerous stalemate: an aggressor power that does not give up its expansionist ambitions and a victim state that, despite its determination, faces great limitations in its efforts to regain control over its territory.

This difficult strategic dilemma makes conflict resolution much more complex and requires a deeper approach from the international community.

Otherwise, the US has warned that it will withdraw as a mediator to achieve peace between Ukrainians and Russians. /Telegraph/
